Babcock, Augustine Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Volleyball’s Olivia Babcock and Wrestling’s Luca Augustine were named the PNC Achievers of the Week.

Olivia Babcock was named the AVCA Freshman of the Year following her incredible first season with the Panthers. She finished with 420 kills on the year, adding a team-leading 12 kills in the National Semifinal game against Nebraska. Babcock was named the program’s first ACC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-ACC, AVCA East Coast Region Freshman of the Year and AVCA East Coast Region Team. She is second in program history for most ACC Freshman of the Week honors with five and earned AVCA National Player of the Week honors after registering 15 kills on 23 swings with zero errors in the sweep against then No. 8 Georgia Tech. She hit .652, a career-high recording 10 or more kills.

Pitt wrestling 174-pound sophomore Luca Augustine continued his steady rise up the national rankings with a 3-0 showing at the prestigious Collegiate Duals tournament on Monday in Nashville.

Augustine improved to 8-2 on the season with wins over opponents from Iowa State, Cornell and Little Rock, including two wins over top-25 individuals, and now sits at a career-best No. 15 in his weight class in this week’s InterMat rankings.

Pitt defeated Little Rock in a dual to conclude the tournament, largely thanks to Augustine win over No. 15 Tyler Brennan, giving the 13th-ranked Panthers a 7-3 team record heading into the New Year.
