Bahrain’s volleyball team stamped their domination over the 1st GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Youth Games in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates after consecutive five victories in the single round-robin competition to capture gold medal with remarkable unbeaten records.
The road to the gold medal started after they defeated Kuwait 3-0 in the opening match and Qatar with the similar margin 3-0 in their second encounter. Bahrain continued their fine form to pull off dramatic 3-2 wins against Saudi Arabia and hosts UAE in their third and fourth matches.
Their final match against Oman on Thursday proved one way traffic, with the Bahrainis coming up with outstanding performance to brush off the rivals in comfortable straight sets 25-21, 25-13, 25-9. With five wins in a row to collect 13 points overall, Bahrain were crowned the eventual champions. Saudi Arabia finished second with 12 points, while Kuwait were placed third with 10 points.
His Highness Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Volleyball Association, crowned champions Bahrain with gold medals. Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Mr Fares Mustafa Al Kooheji and BVA Secretary General Mr Feras Al Halwachi also attended the awards presentation and closing ceremony amidst great joy shared by all attendees.
