SEATTLE – Kierstyn Barton became the first Husky in nine years to win consecutive Pac-12 Volleyball Freshman of the Week awards today, after the Chandler, Ariz. native helped the Huskies to weekend wins over Colorado and Utah. Barton posted 17 kills in both matches as the Dawgs got back to .500 at 4-4 in conference play with a three-match winning streak.
Barton becomes the third different freshman to have back-to-back Freshman of the Week wins this season in the conference, as only Barton, Maggie Li of Cal, and London Wijay of USC have won the honor over the eight weeks of the season thus far. Barton is the first Husky with multiple FOTW wins since Madi Endsley in the 2020-21 season, and the first to win back-to-back honors since Tia Scambray on 9/22 and 9/29 in the 2014 season.
In Friday’s 3-0 sweep of Colorado, Barton was dominant with 17 kills on a career-high .500 attack percentage. Then in Sunday’s marathon 16-14 fifth set win over Utah, Barton had 17 more kills plus 10 digs for her first career double-double, while continuing to pass well with 22 serve-receives and no errors.
For the week, she averaged 4.25 kills per set and had a .311 attack percentage.
The Huskies (13-6, 4-4 Pac-12) are ranked No. 31 in the RPI this week and travel to face UCLA and USC for the first time this year in Los Angeles, this coming Friday and Sunday.
