ATLANTA, GA. – Fresh off its bye week, the South Carolina beach volleyball team (13-8) picks up where it left off with the Georgia State Diggin’ Duals, running April 7-8 in Atlanta. The two-day tournament, hosted by 11th-ranked Panthers, features matchups against UAB, No. 20 Stetson and UT-Marin along with a rematch with Georgia State.
SCOUTING THE WEEKEND FIELD
UAB
- South Carolina leads the all-time series, 12-1 ( Since 2014). In the last meeting, the Gamecocks won, 3-1 (March 17, 2023).
- The Gamecocks have won seven games in a row over the Blazers.
- UAB finished the 2022 season with a 17-18 overall record.
#20 STETSON
- Stetson leads the all-time series, 8-4 ( Since 2016). In the last meeting, the Gamecocks won, 3-2 (March 10, 2023).
- South Carolina snapped a four-game losing streak to Stetson on March 10. Of the 12 meetings all-time between the teams, 10 have had a 3-2 final score.
- Stetson finished the 2022 season ranked 14th nationally, qualifying for the NCAA tournament with a 23-17 overall record.
#11 Georgia State
- Georgia State leads the all-time series, 10-7 ( Since 2014). In the last meeting, the Panthers won, 3-2 (March 26, 2023).
- The Panthers had perhaps the best season in program history in 2022 and return six starters from their NCAA tournament run, including the Ferary sisters and their 37-2 season record as a pair.
- Georgia State finished the 2022 season ranked 7th nationally, falling in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament, with a 28-13 overall record.
TENNESSEE MARTIN
- This is the first meeting between the two programs.
- The Skyhawks return six starters from their NCAA tournament team, including individual wins leader Kayla Carrell (24-1 in the fourth flight).
- UT Martin finished the 2022 season with a 17-9 record and won the Ohio Valley Conference auto-bid to the NCAA tournament before falling to the eventual national champion Southern Cal in the first round.
ALLEN CLAIMS *ANOTHER* IMPRESSIVE RECORD
Skylar Allen already owns a place in program history as its first all-american, the first Gamecock to win 20 games in a season at the No. 1 pairing and the third Gamecock to reach 30 career wins at No. 1, but the senior continues to reach unprecedented heights this spring. In her sweep of UAB on March 17, Allen passed Shannon Williams (45 wins from 2016-19) for the career record for wins on the top court and on March 25 she reached 50 career winson court one after sweeping Arizona State.
