Bergmann Selected VolleyballMag.com First Team All-American – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball’s senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann has been named a 2022 VolleyballMag.com First Team All-American, the publication announced on Friday. Bergmann lands on the first team for the second straight year as she owns three total all-American honors from VolleyballMag.com throughout her career, also including an honorable mention on the heels of her sophomore campaign.

Bergmann’s recognition follows her third consecutive all-American honor by the AVCA (2022: second team, 2021: first team, 2020: honorable mention), tying the second most all-American awards through the organization by an individual on The Flats in program history. One of three former Yellow Jackets that own three or more all-American nods from the AVCA in a career, the fixture in Tech lore is the lone member of the esteemed group with a first-team recognition. Monique Mead holds the overall record with four all-American honors by the AVCA (2009-11: honorable mention, 2012: third team), while Lynette Moster matched Bergmann with three all-American selections through the AVCA (2002: second team, 2003-04: third team).

Bergmann concludes her decorated career with not only three all-American recognitions by the AVCA, but also four all-region honors in as many years, the most ever by a single Yellow Jacket. On top of being recognized in each of her years on The Flats, the vaunted outside hitter also owns the program’s only regional player of the year (2021) and freshman of the year (2019) awards.

Expanding her trophy case, Bergmann previously earned her sixth yearly ACC honor, picking up her third consecutive First Team All-ACC recognition on top of last season’s ACC Player of the Year crown as well as ACC Freshman of the Year and ACC All-Freshman awards during her first collegiate season.

The explosive attacker racked up a multitude of weekly awards throughout the season, including a GameChanger Division I National Player of the Week from the AVCA for the second time in her career on top of four ACC Player of the Week recognitions, matching her season total a year ago.

Bergmann has made waves in Tech’s record books as she finished sixth in program history in career kills (1,731), seventh all time in single-season kills (538) and is fifth on The Flats in career aces (164). Now one of five Yellow Jacket members of the 1,500 kill/1,000 dig club, the “Ger-zilian” also tied the program record in single-match kills with 38 in a reverse sweep of Florida…
