Big 12 Announces Addition of Beach Volleyball as a Sponsored Sport

SALT LAKE CITY — Big 12 Conference Commissioner Brett Yormark announced today the addition of beach volleyball as a sponsored sport beginning in 2025. The addition gives Utah’s beach volleyball program a conference home when the University of Utah enters the Big 12 as a conference member next year.
“I’m grateful for the Big 12 to provide a home for our beach volleyball student-athletes,” said Charmelle Green, Utah’s Deputy Athletics Director, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Woman Administrator. “I am looking forward to the continued elevated competition for our student-athletes heading into the Big 12 Conference.”
Beach volleyball is experiencing growth and popularity on the national stage. Current Big 12 Conference member TCU has a beach volleyball program, which will be joined in 2025 by incoming programs from Utah, Arizona and Arizona State.
“I couldn’t be more excited that the Big 12 will be sponsoring beach volleyball,” said Utah head coach Brenda Whicker. “The Big 12 is really taking a leadership role in its commitment to increasing opportunities for women to compete.”
Utah’s beach volleyball program began play as a varsity sport in the spring of 2017.
