Big Ten Selects Hudson as Dual Player and Freshman of the Week Recipient

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the third time this season, freshman Eva Hudson has been named both Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week.

Overall, Hudson has received Freshman of the Week accolades for five of the six weeks of play and joins elite company as one of five players in Big Ten history to receive the honor as many times (last: record-holder Dana Retke, 9 times in 2017).

Last week, Hudson guided No. 5 Purdue to remain undefeated in conference play following a 3-2 win at Illinois and a sweep of Rutgers.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native averaged a Big-Ten leading 5.63 points per set and 5.38 kills per set over the eight sets played. To open the weekend, Hudson posted her first double-double behind two career-highs: 24 kills and 17 digs at Illinois. Her back row performance obliterated her previous record in digs by eight while offensively, she totaled 50 attacks with only five errors. Then, Hudson posted 19 kills vs. Rutgers, the most by a Big Ten player in a three-set match last week, while doing so at a .469 hitting clip, her most efficient match of conference action.

Catch Hudson and the No. 5 Boilermaker volleyball squad on Big Ten Network on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET as they take on Iowa at home. Then, Purdue will host a Saturday night top-10 matchup vs. No. 8 Wisconsin at 6 p.m. ET on B1G+.
