ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team played another hard fought match, Saturday afternoon as they faced No.19 Marymount (Va.) in CVC play. The Blue Jays fell, 3-1 but took two of the sets past 25 points. 

Alex Finch tied a season-high 23 kills while adding six digs. Nick Chapman totaled 12 kills and eight digs followed by Logan Smith’s ten kills. Nate Seeger grabbed 36 assists while Dustin Hagin was one shy of a career-high at 18 digs. 

Both teams started strong in set one as Marymount (Va.) jumped to a 9-4 lead before Etown grabbed five straight to tie it up at 9-9. The two went back and forth before the Saints were able to go on a 6-1 run as they pulled ahead, 18-14. Two Blue Jay attack errors and three Saints kills extended their lead to 23-18. Finch and Chapman smacked down the final kills before the Saints added one of their own to win, 25-21. 

The second set started in a similar fashion as Elizabethtown had tied up the set at 10-10. Marymount grabbed the lead at 14-11 after some Etown errors. Marymount rattled off four straight before Etown would respond with for of their own as Finch tallied two straight aces. The Blue Jays then went on a 6-1 run, flipping the script and putting them in the lead. After Etown had come to set point, the Saints grabbed the next four to regain the lead at 25-24. Etown kept pushing the Marymount ultimately came out on top at 28-26. 

To start set three, Marymount jumped to a 7-3 lead. Etown sprinkled in some points of their own and were able to come within one of the Saint after three straight MU errors. Marymount again gained momentum as they took a 19-14 lead after two kills in a row. Through the end of the set neither team could gain more than a two-point lead but the Blue Jays finished on top after two Saints errors to win, 26-24. 

Set four saw Elizabethtown and Marymount trade points with the Blue Jays tying it up 8-8. Two straight kills from Chapman again tied up the set 10-10. Chapman, Finch, and Smith smacked down kills to bring the score to 16-17. The Saints rattled off four straight and from there it was enough for Marymount to win, 25-21. 

Elizabethtown ends their season 13-13 overall while 1-7 in the CVC.
