LANGHORNE, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball was back in action tonight for the first time since February 18th as they swept Cairn in a non-conference match.
Elizabethtown had a slow start in set one as Cairn first took a, 6-2 lead. Etown took over the lead at 8-7 as two Steve Swain kills sandwiched a Highlander attack error. After trading points, Cairn re-took the lead by five as they tallied three points in a row. Etown came back within one after four consecutive points led by two Nick Chapman kills. After two Cairn errors, the Blue Jays led by just one at 24-23. Etown came out on top, 26-24 following a kill from Kyle McKiernan.
Set two started different as Elizabethtown was out on top, 6-2 following a kill from Cheston Jacobs. A kill from Blake Hildebrand and an ace from Jacobs extended Etown’s lead, 10-4. After going on a 5-2 run, Cairn trailed 12-9 to the Blue Jays. Three consecutive Highlander errors kept Etown with a substantial lead. After some back and forth, Elizabethtown totaled four in a row to take a, 22-13 lead. Three Cairn errors and an ace from Jacobs extended Etown’s lead. Cairn recorded four more final points before a Cairn service error gave the Blue Jays the 25-17 win.
Set three saw, Elizabethtown jump out to a 5-2 lead after four points in a row. Kills from Swain and Jacobs, and an ace from Tony Camillo. Kills from Chapman and Camillo tied up the set, 10-10.
