ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball played their first five-set match of the season as they hosted Misericordia, Thursday evening inside Thompson Gymnasium. The Blue Jays battled back and forth but ultimately fell, 2-3.
The first set started close with Elizabethtown and Misericordia trading points till 5-5. The Cougars then went on a 7-1 run which doubled their lead over Etown, 12-6. Misericordia kept stringing points together back to back which kept up their momentum. A kill from Kyle McKiernan and Steve Swain brought the Blue Jays with eight at, 11-19. A Cougar kill and Etown attack error brought the score to, 12-23. A block from Kyle McKienan closed out the first set before a final Cougar kill. Misericordia won set one, 14-25.
Elizabethtown started off hot in set two with a 6-2 lead. Four points from Misericordia knotted the score at 6-6. The teams traded points till 12-12 before Etown smacked down two kills from Swain and Logan Smith. The Blue Jays held a two-point lead over the Cougars, then rattled off four points in a row taking a, 22-17 after two Swain kills and two Smith aces. Tony Camillo ended set two, 25-20 as he smacked down the final kill.
Set three started off just the same as the two were in a tight race. Elizabethtown pulled ahead, 16-11 with three points in a row as Smith picked up two big blocks. Etown would keep their lead by five after a Cougar attack error. Ending the set, the Blue Jays went on a 5-6 run with McKiernan and Swain putting down kills to win, 25-19.
