ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team moved to 2-1 on the early season as they swept, Wilkes Tuesday evening, handing the Colonels their first loss of the season.
Elizabethtown showed their power early as they took set one, 25-15. Etown started off with a 8-3 lead over Wilkes following a Logan Smith service ace and a kill from Steve Swain. The Blue Jays and Colonels went back-n-forth until a block by Smith and Chestin Jacobs was sandwiched between two Wilkes errors. Kills from Blake Hildebrand and Nick Chapman extended Etown’s lead to 21-11. Wilkes put down three more kills before two attack errors cost them as Elizabethtown won set one, 25-15.
Elizabethtown again started hot as two Swain kills sandwiched a Colonel attack error. Jacobs smacked down a kill as the Blue Jays led by just one, 5-4. Wilkes took over the lead as they tallied four consecutive points. In a close back-n-forth battle, Elizabethtown went on a 5-1 run with two Chapman aces ending the run. With Etown leading by just two points, Wilkes re-took the lead at 15-14. Wilkes kept gaining momentum as they came out to a 19-16 lead. A Chapman kill and a Colonel attack error brought the Blue Jays back within one. Following a Wilkes kill, Etown went on a five-point run to regain the lead, 23-20. Two Wilkes errors again cost them the win as Elizabethtown won set two, 25-22.
The start of the third set was much closer as Hildebrand put down a kill to lead, 4-3. Two kills from Kyle McKiernan and one from Chapman brought the Blue Jays lead out to, 11-8. After Wilkes tied up the set,…
