EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 12 Purdue Boilermakers fell in five sets at Northwestern, 23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 11-15) despite a Big Ten season-high 16 blocks. With the result, Purdue moves to 15-6 overall and 6-5 in Big Ten play.
The Boilermakers out-blocked the Cats 16-8, marking not only the most in a Big Ten match this season, but ties the season-high (set vs. Milwaukee, 9/3). Raven Colvin set a season-best nine blocks (0-9) while Megan Renner set a career-best six block assists.
The difference-maker came in the Wildcat back row, which out-dug the Boilermakers, 61-80.
Eva Hudson led the team behind 19 kills and a .224 hitting % (19-6-58) while adding five block assists, tying her career-best. Meanwhile, senior Maddy Chinn recorded a career-high 12 kills on 37 swings. Colvin close the night with seven kills.
Renner went errorless on the attack tallying three kills while dishing out 24 assists.
Libero Maddie Schermerhorn registered 23 digs. Meanwhile Ava Torrance, Ali Hornung and Eva Hudson each recorded six apiece.
Emily Brown led the team with three of Purdue’s six service aces.
Purdue will be back on Sunday afternoon in Holloway Gymnasium to take on Indiana. The rivals will play for the rights to the Monon Spike, with a first serve at 1 p.m. ET on B1G+.
