Borer named ACC Freshman of the Week


GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in her career, Hanna Borer has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. This is Virginia Tech’s first Freshman of the Week honor since Kaity Smith earned the award in 2017.
 
Borer helped the Hokies record their first win at Clemson since 2019, defeating the Tigers 3-2 in a five-set thriller to open ACC play 1-0. The freshman recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 34 assists and 14 digs. She helped the Hokie attack hit at a .249 clip with 68 kills. Tech hit over .200 in every set except for one against the Tigers, with a match-high .387 in the first set. Borer also recorded an ace in the win.
 
Against No. 13 Georgia Tech, Borer added 18 assists for the Hokies as well as six digs. Tech hit .258 in the second set against the 13th ranked team in the country with 13 kills. Borer had eight assists over that second set.
 
On the weekend, Borer totaled 52 assists, averaging 6.50 assists per set and helping the Hokies hit .210 over the weekend. She added 20 digs defensively, with 2.50 per set, as well as adding an ace to her weekend point total.
