LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s volleyball team (5-2) concludes its preseason with a pair of matches at San Diego State (2-7) in Peterson Gym on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. PT and at No. 8 San Diego (7-1) in Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Bruins’ match versus the Aztecs will be available for streaming on the Mountain West Network and their match with the Toreros on the WCC Network.
Outside hitter élan McCall leads UCLA in both kills (72) and digs (72) through the first seven matches of the season.
Week in Review
The Bruins split last week’s competition with a loss at LMU (24-26, 20-25, 19-25) and a four-set victory over San Jose State (25-14 20-25, 26-24, 25-17). It was the Bruins’ first time being swept since its NCAA Regional loss to the eventual 2021 NCAA Champion Wisconsin Badgers. Against San Jose State, élan McCalll led UCLA with her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs. McCall went without an attack error on her 25 swings, finishing the match with a .440 hitting percentage. Setter Kate Lane entered the match in the third set with the Bruins trailing, 13-11, and sparked the Bruins with a block and kill as UCLA went on to win the set 26-24. Joining McCall in double-figure kills was Grayce Olson and Iman Ndiaye. Ndiaye took a career-high 31 swings in the match.

After her 11 kills versus San Jose State last Friday, freshman Grayce Olson now has three double-digit kill performances through her first seven collegiate matches. Olson also led the Bruins with 14 kills (14-5-31) in their sweep of Texas State on Sept. 2. Before coming to Westwood, Olson was a four-year letterwinner at Foothill High School and crowned an East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Champion three times. Olson was also a three-time EBAL All-League selection. She was honored as the 2021 Northern California Section CIF Player of the Year her senior season after leading the Falcons with 655 kills (6.3 KPS) at a .349 hitting percentage, earning her 2021 AVCA High School First Team All-American and 2021 EBAL MVP honors.
