Bruins Lose to No. 4 Washington State, 3-1

LOS ANGELES – Grayce Olson led the UCLA women’s volleyball team with a career-high 17 kills and a .438 hitting percentage in its four-set loss against No. 4 Washington State at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Sunday afternoon.
 
Set scores were 22-25, 28-26, 10-25 and 20-25.
 
The Bruins (11-9, 3-7) won a contentious second set in extra points, 28-26, but fell in the remaining three with an overall hitting percentage of .191. Outside hitter Iman Ndiaye finished the match with nine kills tied a career high with 12 digs. On the other side of the net, the Cougars (18-3, 8-2) hit for a .272 rate while dealing 10 service aces compared to UCLA’s one.
 
Washington State had three players finish in double-digit kills. Pia Timmer scored a match-high 22.5 points off 19 kills (.313%) and three service aces. Middle blocker Magda Jelárová added 18.0 points on 14 kills (.545%) and seven blocks.
 
The Bruins got off to slow starts in set one and two. In the first, Washington State opened the match on a 5-1 scoring run. UCLA improvised on several out-of-system plays to record kills and eventually even the game at 11-11.
