Bryant Joins Staff as Assistant Coach/Director of Operations

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke volleyball head coach Jolene Nagel and the program have announced the addition of 2024 graduate Maddie Bryant to the Blue Devil coaching staff. Bryant will serve as an assistant coach and director of volleyball operations for the 2024 season.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Maddie Bryant to Duke to join our volleyball staff as an assistant coach,” Nagel said. “She brings to our staff a passion about Duke and winning, a love of the game and a disciplined work ethic that will serve all of us well. She is familiar with our team and the conference and will give her utmost efforts towards our team’s success and ensuring a quality experience for our student-athletes.”

Bryant spent the last two seasons as a Duke volleyball student-athlete where she was the starting libero in the fall of 2022 and 2023. She suffered a season-ending injury in 2022, just six matches into the season.

As a captain in 2023, she played in every set (107) and led the team with 387 total digs for 3.62 digs per set. She also added 103 assists and 27 serving aces as a key member to Duke’s offense and defense. The Anderson, South Carolina, native tallied 20-or-more digs four times and saw double-digit digs in all but seven games as a graduate student.

Prior to her arrival in Durham, she spent three seasons at Tennessee.

“To join Duke volleyball on staff means that I get to contribute to the legacy that Coach [Nagel] has built of supporting strong young women who are also exceptional on the court,” Bryant said. “There is nothing I love more than winning with a close-knit team, and I know Duke volleyball will accomplish that. The coaching staff and team once took a chance on me as a grad transfer, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the program that has gifted me so much joy.”

Duke will kick off the 2024 season Aug. 30 against Colgate in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
