Buffs Send Three Players to USAVB Program

BOULDER – The Colorado women’s volleyball team has selected Lexi Hadrych, Morgan Riddle, and Sydney Jordan to attend the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs this Friday through Sunday for the 2023 USAVB Women’s National Team Open Program.

“I’m really excited for Lexi, Syd, and Mo to go down to the springs,” head coach Jesse Mahoney commented. “We always send a group down to the open tryouts, and they’ve always had a good experience measuring themselves against some of the best players in the country.

Hadrych, Riddle, and Jordan will compete with hundreds of athletes from across the country for a chance to make it onto the USA’s Women’s National Team or the Women’s Collegiate National Team.

Hadrych, a pin hitter who transferred to Colorado from UCLA at the beginning of the 2022 season, proved to be an offensive powerhouse for the Buffs. She was second on the team in kills with 361 and averaged a .242 attack percentage.

“I’m excited. I did it once my freshman year and I had a good experience,” Hadrych commented. “I had shoulder pain the first time I went and had to sit out some, so I’m glad that my shoulder is good now and I’ll be able to participate in each day.”

Riddle, a junior libero from Parker, Colo., played in eight sets for the Buffs during the 2022 campaign and recorded eight digs.

“I think it’s a great opportunity,” Riddle said. “Schools from all around the country fly in to play, so it’s kind of amazing that we only have to drive two hours. I’m really excited to learn a little bit and play over the weekend. It should be fun.

Jordan is a first year student who got a jump start on her college volleyball career by enrolling at CU after graduating from Ridge Point High School in December.

“I’m just excited to compete and continue to work on the things I’m working on at [spring practice],” Jordan said.

Registration for the program was only open to current and recently graduated college-age athletes born in the years 1998-2004. Players discover if they are selected for a team several weeks after the camp concludes.
