Li Named Offensive Player Of The Week, Maeder Named Setter Of The Week

BERKELEY – After helping lead the California volleyball team to a 3-0 start at the Rose City Showdown, Xuemeng (Maggie) Li and Annalea Maeder earned the ACC’s first weekly award honors as Li was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Maeder was named ACC Setter of the Week.

Li posted a conference-best 49 kills in 11 sets, as she paced Cal to a perfect 3-0 start at the Rose City Showdown presented by Hotel Vance last week. In the Golden Bears’ 3-0 sweep of Nevada to open the season on Saturday Li put down a team-best 10 kills and posted three aces in the win. In a hard-fought 3-2 win over San Francisco on Saturday, Li matched a career high with 24 kills to help propel the come-from-behind win. To close out the three-day event, Li hit .565 with 15 kills and just a pair of errors to lead the Bears to a 3-0 victory at Portland State later that day. For the week, Li averaged a league-best 5.32 points per set.

Maeder totaled a conference-best 122 assists in Cal’s 3-0 start to the season, becoming one of just two players in the ACC to total over 100 assists in the opening weekend. After recording 27 assists in the Bears’ 3-0 sweep of Nevada on Friday, she recorded 60 helpers in a 3-2 win over San Francisco on Saturday, the highest assist mark by any player in the ACC this season. To cap off the weekend, Maeder handed out 35 assists in a 3-0 sweep of host Portland State.
