Elise Lau is one of four defensive specialists set to play for the Bears in 2025.
Defensive Specialist Joins 5-Woman Freshman Class
BERKELEY – The California volleyball team added another talented piece to its 2025 squad on Friday with the signing of incoming freshman Elise Lau, a native of San Francisco and sister to rising senior Natalie Lau.
Lau, a 5-foot-10 defensive specialist from St. Ignatius High School, ranked third in both digs and service aces among all West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) players as a senior. She played club ball for Vision, with her team Vision-18 Gold winning the open division of the 2025 Triple Crown NIT.
“Elise was destined to be a Golden Bear from a young age, and we are thrilled that she will be here with us starting in the fall,” head coach Jen Malcom said. “Our staff has been keeping an eye on Elise over the past year, and she continuously won us over each time we watched her. She is a great culture player as well as a go-getter on the court.”
Lau intends to major in molecular and cell biology at Cal. She joins an incoming freshman class that includes fellow defensive specialist Francesca Popescu, setter Maria Știrbu, outside hitter Arissa Carbonara and opposite Annemarie O’Gara.
