BERKELEY – California volleyball has announced the signing of two transfers for the 2025 season, welcoming 6-foot-1 outside hitter Dominique Phills and 6-foot-3 middle blocker Ashleigh Woodruff to Berkeley.

Phills, who hails from Pearland, Texas, posted 146 kills as a freshman at Iowa in 2024, averaging 2.5 kills per set in Big 10 play. As a high school student, she was the first freshman in Glenda Dawson High School history to play on the varsity volleyball team, surpassing 1,500 kills over her four years – including a district-leading 465 as a senior. Phills’ accolades include three First-Team All-District (2020-21, 2023) honors with two Offensive Player of the Year nods (2021, 23). She also competed for the Houston Juniors Volleyball Club, notching two Tournament MVP titles and leading her team to third place at 15s Nationals in 2021. Phills plans to major in psychology at Cal.

“Dominique brings valuable playing experience to our outside hitter group despite just finishing her first year,” Cal head coach Jen Malcom said. “She showed that she belongs at the highest level. I know that (Cal Assistant) Coach Cole (Murray) will add to Dominique’s game and she will be in a great spot heading into the fall season.”

Woodruff, a native of Scarsdale, New York, spent her first two years at Stony Brook and posted her best game to date in the 2024 season opener with a 10-kill (.450), four-block outing against Presbyterian. A three-year member of The Masters School varsity volleyball team, Woodruff was named to the All-Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) Second Team in 2022 and was also a two-year team MVP (2021-22). She also participated in track & field at The Masters School, specializing in the high jump and 100m dash, and played club ball with NYC Juniors. Woodruff will study integrative biology at Cal.

“We are very excited about Ashleigh and what she brings to our team,” Malcom said. “Cal is a great place for Ashleigh to show off her potential and competitiveness. Her size and athleticism really stood out to us and will add more depth to our middle position. I look forward to seeing what (Cal…
