Cammy Niesen Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Follow back-to-back 20-dig performances on the road, Ole Miss libero Cammy Niesen was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Niesen averaged 4.40 digs per set as the Rebels picked up their first conference victory of the season, rallying past LSU in five sets. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was a key in keeping the Tiger offense at bay, helping hold them to a .246 attacking percentage on the weekend.

The freshman anchored the Rebel defense on the road in Baton Rouge, collecting a career-high 24 digs on Friday against LSU. Niesen followed it up with 20 digs the following night, helping lead Ole Miss to its first conference victory of the season. She is one of six SEC student-athletes to record back-to-back 20-plus dig matches this season.

Niesen also had an impact on the game on the offensive side, tallying nine assists with the Rebels out of system and four aces at the service line.

The Rebels are back in action this weekend, hosting Alabama in a pair of matches on October 7 and 8 at the Gillom Center.
