The 20th FIVB Volleyball World Men’s Championship is due to get underway in Poland and Slovenia and it is the aforementioned host Poland will be the team everybody is looking to beat once more.
Having lifted the trophy in both 2014 and 2018, the Poles will once again be the hot favourites and with the home fans backing them to the hilt, they could take some stopping.
In an event originally derailed by the political situation in Russia, it was Poland and Slovenia who stepped in to host the event, which pits 24 of the best countries in the world against each other.
No fewer than 5 continents are represented in the 6 group draw, which sees the top 16 teams progress to the knockout rounds.
From there it is the quarter finals, semi-finals and final, which will be held in Katowice, Poland and the atmosphere promises to be incredible in both Ljubljana, Slovenia and Katowice.
According to Offers.Bet, Poland are the hot favourites (based on the current odds offerings) to make it three from three in terms of World Cups and whilst their form since their 2018 victory hasn’t perhaps been what it once was, beating Poland in a World Cup is easier said than done.
Runners up in the last two World Cups Brazil, are now the number one seed in the world currently and their performances in recent months suggest they are certainly ready to make an assault on the World Cup this year.
Elsewhere, the likes of France, Italy and Argentina should all be in the mix at the FIVB Volleyball World Men’s Championship, with all three sides having shown excellent form in recent competitions.
World Cups often have sides that come through the pack and surprise and once again there looks to be whole host of countries in the mix here in Poland and Slovenia.
The United States last won the competition back in 1986 and have seldom troubled the scorers since but there is a genuine sense of optimism growing around their side this year.
Similarly, co-hosts Slovenia have no real FIVB Volleyball World Men’s Championship history to speak of but with home support backing them to the hilt and a decent young side, who knows how far they could go.
Two other sides that could find themselves in the mix in a very open competition are Serbia and Iran, with both teams having fought their way into the world’s top 10 and they look to have favourable draws.
