STANFORD, Calif. – Elia Rubin had a season-high 21 kills to power No. 2 Stanford past No. 11 Kentucky, 25-19, 25-19, 28-30, 25-20, Saturday, in Maples Pavilion.
Stanford closed out its nonconference slate with an 8-1 record. The Cardinal hit .263 as a team while holding Kentucky (6-5) to a .181 clip. Stanford registered seven aces, 57 digs and 8.0 blocks, while the Wildcats finished with four aces, 45 digs and 9.0 blocks.
Rubin added eight digs, three assists and two aces to her match-best 21 kills. Setter Kami Miner turned in her seventh double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs. The senior also posted a season-high five kills on .714 hitting.
Middle blocker Sami Francis tallied seven kills on .333 hitting, her first aces of the year, and tied for a match-high with five blocks. Libero Elena Oglivie matched her season-high with a match-best 23 digs to go with four assists and an ace.
Opposite Jordyn Harvey recorded nine kills, two assists, an ace and a career-high four blocks. Outside hitter Ipar Kurt chipped in with six kills, three digs and two blocks, while freshman Lizzy Andrew had seven kills on 13 errorless swings to hit .538.
Senior defensive specialist Taylor Beaven collected five digs, while junior Anna Pringle had three. Freshman Taylor Yu came off the bench as a serving sub and tied her career-high with two aces and had two digs.
Kentucky was led by Brooklyn DeLeye’s 17 kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace. Setter Emma Grome posted a double-double with 40 assists and 13 digs. Stanford improves to 3-2 all-time against the Wildcats.
Stanford hits the road next week to open ACC play at Notre Dame on Friday and No. 4 Louisville on Sunday.
