LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ending its weekend on the road with a top-five matchup, No. 3 Stanford women’s volleyball fell to No. 5 Louisville, 3-0, on Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinal moves to 9-2 this season and 1-1 in the ACC.
Elia Rubin led the Cardinal with nine kills while Ipar Kurt had eight. Kami Miner dished 24 assists, to go with eight digs, while Elena Oglivie led the way with 11 digs. Stanford out-blocked Louisville 9-3, led by five from Sami Francis.
The Cardinal attack was limited to just .144 hitting on the afternoon while giving up a .248 clip on the other end. The match marked Stanford’s fourth against a top-10 opponent this season and the seventh against a top-25 team in 11 contests.
Facing off for the third time in program history, Louisville took the opening set, 25-16, despite a quick 4-1 start from Stanford, including three kills from Rubin. A 9-3 run from the Cardinals switched the momentum, and Louisville went on to claim the final six points of the set to take an early 1-0 lead. The second set was decided by just two points, 25-23, with Louisville responding from a six-point deficit to double the advantage.
In search of its first set win of the match, Stanford came up three points short in the third, 25-22. The set included five lead changes and nine ties, but Louisville got the needed points at the end to secure the victory.
Stanford returns to action on Friday, Oct. 4 at Maples Pavilion against NC State. The match opens a four-game homestand and will air on ACC Network Extra.
