Career-Highs Abound In 3-2 Win At Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – Washington Volleyball ended a tough four-match road trip with a hard-earned and satisfying victory today at Arizona State. The win came in a fifth set, which had been unkind to the Huskies recently, including just two days ago, but Washington pulled away for a 15-8 set five victory, led by a combined 10 kills from seniors Claire Hoffman and Marin Grote.
 
The Huskies got some payback for an earlier five set loss at home to the Sun Devils, taking the rematch today by the final scores of 18-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-27, 15-8. Washington improved to 18-8 and 10-6 in Pac-12 play while ASU dropped to 11-17 and 5-11.
 
When the dust settled, several Huskies set or tied career-best marks today. Hoffman had 26 kills on 56 swings to hit .357, breaking her previous career-high of 25 kills. Grote tied her career-high with 16 kills, hitting .444. Redshirt freshman Audra Wilmes had a career-best 12 kills, hitting .321. And Ella May Powell became the fourth player in Pac-12 history to pass the 6,000 career assists mark, and did it in style by equaling her career-high with 60 assists.

 
Emoni Bush got the start today, coming back from an ankle sprain after missing the past five matches, but Bush showed some rust after the layoff. Shannon Crenshaw
