Cats Take Down Red Raiders to Close out Regular Season


LUBBOCK, Texas – Arizona beat Texas Tech in four sets (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22) in the final Big 12 match of the season to improve to 20-9 (9-9 Big 12) – the first 20-win season for Arizona since 2018. The Wildcats extended their win streak to seven matches, the Cats’ longest conference win streak since 2018.
 
Jordan Wilson led Arizona’s offense with 28 kills and a .451 hitting percentage. Jaelyn Hodge followed with 13 kills and Carlie Cisneros recorded 11 kills. The trio all notched double-doubles to help Arizona win its 20th match of the season.
 
Defensively, Arizona had six blocks to hold Texas Tech to a .186 hitting percentage. Alayna Johnson and Journey Tucker led the defense with three blocks each. Cisneros and Wilson both had two blocks to help the Cats.
 
Texas Tech won the opening set, 25-23. Although the Wildcats led the Red Raiders in hitting percentage and blocks, Arizona recorded six service errors to give Texas Tech the edge in the first set. Wilson came out strong, recording 11 kills and a .733 clip to lead Arizona. Hodge had four kills and Cisneros tallied a pair of kills but it wasn’t enough to win the first set.
 
Arizona took the second set, 25-18, to even the match. The Cats served three aces and had two blocks to win the second set. Wilson and Cisneros led the offense with seven kills and four kills, respectively. Four Wildcats – Cisneros, Hodge, Johnson, and Tucker – each had one block assist to hold the Red Raiders to a .047 hitting percentage.
 
The Wildcats won the third set, 25-20. Wilson tallied five kills and Hodge added four kills to lead the attack for the Cats. Cisneros helped Arizona take a 2-1 lead over Texas Tech with two kills and a pair of aces.
 
Arizona won the fourth set, 25-22, to win the match. The Wildcats jumped out to a 9-5 lead and the Red Raiders never caught up. Hodge and Wilson both had five kills while hitting above .300 to lead the way for the offense. Cisneros and Tucker recorded three kills each to help Arizona secure the final win in Big 12 play.
 
The Wildcats will learn their postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, December 1 at 4 p.m. MST.
