China delivered a resounding 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-12) win over Italy, asserting their dominance in women’s sitting volleyball at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in North Paris Arena on Saturday.
China captain Xu Yixiao showcased her offensive prowess as she led her team with 18 points, while Italy struggled to counter the powerful plays of their opponents.
Xu was once again unstoppable throughout the match, racking up 17 points from attacks and adding one ace to her tally. Tang Xuemei had an equally terrific outing, tallying 17 points, including 14 attacks and three aces. Italy’s captain, Francesca Bosio, battled bravely, leading her team with 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to contend with China’s commanding performance.
Overall, China’s efficiency shone through as they executed 51 successful attacks out of 106 attempts, supplemented by four blocks and seven aces.
China quickly claimed control of the opening set, capitalising on Italy’s early errors to carve out a commanding lead. Xu and Xuemei tore through Italy’s defence with their consistent and calculated attacks. Despite a few flashes of fight from Bosio, Italy could not match the Chinese pace or precision. The set closed at 25-15, leaving China firmly in charge.
In the second set, Italy attempted a revival, but China’s momentum only magnified. Tang Xuemei’s serves were particularly punishing, disrupting Italy’s formation and leading to multiple aces. Italy’s struggle with receptions and repeated errors allowed China to extend their lead seamlessly. By the time Xu Yixiao closed the set at 25-16, Italy’s chances of a comeback had significantly diminished.
The final set was a showcase of China’s complete control, as they systematically dismantled Italy’s defence. Italy’s errors escalated under pressure, and China capitalised on every chance, especially through the precise and powerful play of Xu and Tang. The set concluded at 25-12, cementing a comprehensive victory for China.
