Astana, Kazakhstan, 8 July 2023 – China retained their title in the women’s competition of the 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball Asian Zone Championships after a 3-0 defeat (25-12, 25-15, 25-11) of Iran on Saturday afternoon at the Jekpe -Jek Sports Centre. Along with their pursuit of the top the podium in Astana, China have, likewise, booked themselves an appearance in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The titleholders were set to prove their dominance from the onset, imposing their serve and attack. Iran displayed their capability and quality in several points, but they could not prevent the Chinese side from dictating the tempo of plays. The defending champions ensured to capitalise well on their momentum, even under the conditions of rather limited preparation they had ahead of the competition.
China head coach Xu Huimin explained “We had one month of training before this tournament, and it was our first time to gather again after the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.”
“But generally, the girls had a really good and positive attitude, which helped us win here,” Xu added.
With the Paris 2024 ticket now at hand, China will head back home for a battery of strategy and preparation.
“We want to aim for the gold this time. We want to take it all the way to achieving the gold medal,” Xu said.
