Manama, Bahrain, July 28, 2024 – Chinese Taipei produced solid performance to defeat Saudi Arabia in hard-fought straight sets in their campaign opener of the 15th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Main Hall to score 3 important points on Sunday.
The exceptional 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 victory got Chinese Taipei off to a great start in the topflight championship, which serves as the Asia’s qualification tournament for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship. Chinese Taipei finished sixth at the previous edition two years ago in Iran.
Despite the strong performance of Chinese Taipei in the first set and the noticeable decline in the Saudi Arabians, coach Mohammed bin Hamouda’s players improved on their offensive system in the next two sets, allowing the tough opponents scoring difficulties. However, some simple receptive errors and the lack of offensive clearance cost them the loss of both sets to Chinese Taipei, which knew how to return from afar and diversify their attack on the net, with the emergence of Tsai Tsung-Jui in the attacks side.
Tsai Tsung-Jui was the Chinese Taipei’s most productive player, scoring 16 points including 13 attacks, while Sohail Khan led Saudi Arabia with 12 points.
Chinese Taipei ambassador to the Kingdom, Mr Wang Po-Han, watched his team play in this opening match, which ended in favor of Chinese Taipei. He was keen to congratulate the players on the field and asked the players to present high technical levels in an effort of advancing to the next round.
