Tehran, Iran, August 21, 2022 – In-form Chinese Taipei survived a stiff challenge from Thailand to beat the Thai side in dramatic four-setter 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-20 in the 5th-8th playoff match in the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall on Sunday.
Thailand mixed the excellent offensive combination of spectacular spikes from Chaloemdet Bunrot and solid blocks from captain Anupong Chansap to take the first set 25-21.
Thailand maintained their good show in the second set, hoping to finish the match with a straight-set win but soon after Chinese Taipei turned things around and came up with quick attacks and solid defence, allowing the Thais tough times to score. Chinese Taipei won the close second set 25-22.
Thailand tried to fight back but Chinese Taipei showed quality and their great determination was handsomely rewarded in the next two sets, thanks to aggressive spikes from Jheng Wei-Jhih. Chinese Taipei intensified their defence and simultaneously went on their spectacular attacks to win the hard-fought third and fourth sets 26-24, 25-20 and match.
Chinese Taipei will next battle it out with China in the 5th-6th place playoff, while Thailand and Kuwait will fight for the 7th place.
