The 2023 CEV Women’s Champions League returned with a bang as the first leg matches of the quarterfinals took place on today, on March 14. Developres Rzeszow welcomed Eczacıbaşı Dynavit, while Allianz MTV Stuttgart hosted Igor Gorgonzola Novara in what was expected to be an action-packed evening.
In the first match of the night, Eczacıbaşı Dynavit took on Developres Rzeszow in Poland. The Orange & Whites managed to secure important win by defeating the hosts 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 28-26).
Tijana Boskovic was the star of the show as she finished the game as the top scorer with an impressive 27 points, which included a 48% success rate in attack. Weronika Centka put in a valiant effort for Developres Rzeszow, but her 15 points were not enough to help her team overcome the Turkish giants.
In the second match of the night, Allianz MTV Stuttgart welcomed Italian powerhouse Igor Gorgonzola Novara. Despite starting strongly and taking the first set 25-21, the German side was unable to keep up with the Italian team, who fought back to win the next three sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-23.
Kenia Carcaces was the match top scorer with an impressive 24 points, which included three aces, and a 62% success rate in attack. Ebrar Karakurt also contributed significantly with 20 points, including three blocks. For Allianz MTV Stuttgart, Krystal Rivers was the most effective with 20 points at a 38% attack rate.
These results put Eczacıbaşı Dynavit and Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the superior position ahead of the second leg matches of the quarterfinals. Developres Rzeszow and Allianz MTV Stuttgart, however, will be looking to bounce back and turn things around when they travel to Turkey and Italy, respectively, for the return matches next week.
