ELMIRA, N.Y. – Maddie Boucher ’24 and Makenna Clark ’25 combined to record 24 kills for the Elmira College women’s volleyball program on Friday night as the Soaring Eagles dropped their Empire 8 Conference opener against Nazareth, 3-0, inside Speidel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides would trade the lead early in the first set as the Soaring Eagles used a pair of back-to-back kills from Boucher to grab a 5-4 advantage against the Golden Flyers. A 3-0 run later in the set by Nazareth would be answered with a 3-0 run from Elmira as the Purple & Gold trimmed the deficit to 10-9.
- Leading 11-10 in the first set, Nazareth used an 8-1 stretch through the middle portion to gain a 19-11 lead against the Soaring Eagles. A late rally by EC with kills coming from Allison Hasty ’26, Morgan Richardson ’25, and Boucher would trim the deficit to 19-15 before the Golden Flyers closed the set with a 25-17 victory.
- Elmira would fall behind 8-3 early in the second set before going on a 6-1 run to knot the score 10-10. Consecutive service aces from Asia Curkendall ’25 would help to pull the Purple & Gold even with Nazareth. The Golden Flyers countered with a 5-0 run that would shift the momentum and eventually secured the 25-17 victory despite a pair of late kills from Clark as the Soaring Eagles looked to extend the set.
