ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan volleyball head coach Erin Virtue announced on Monday (July 31) that Nick Clark has joined the staff as the program’s assistant coach.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Nick back home to Michigan,” said Virtue. “As we continue to build a wonderful staff, Nick is the final piece to a tremendous group. Nick will bring great value to our defensive and scouting efforts — in addition to many areas of the program. I continue to be grateful to Michigan Athletics for supporting our efforts to build one of the best staffs in the country.”
Clark most recently served as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams at Harvard for two years. While working with the women’s team, Clark focused on the setters and attackers but with the men’s team focused on defense and blockers. In his two years with Harvard, four players earned All-Ivy honorable mentions.
He has also served as a coach in the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program since May of last year. Clark has focused on defense and middle blockers for the U-18, U-19 and U-20 programs.
Prior to his role at Harvard, Clark was a volunteer assistant at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he focused on setters, outside hitters and liberos. Clark earned his master’s degree in leadership at Clarke University, where he was the men’s volleyball coach from June of 2015 through May of 2019. Before Clarke University, Clark also coached at West Alabama, Pfeiffer University and Siena Heights over the course of five years.
“Nick’s dedication to learning and growing is a key attribute that made him the best candidate for this position,” Virtue added. “Student-athlete development, as well as staff development, will be foundational to the growth of our program.”
Clark graduated from Eastern Michigan in 2010 with a dual major in Secondary Education and Social Studies with a minor in History. While at Eastern, Clark founded the Men’s Club Program and served as president, coach and was an outside hitter with the team.
A native of Carleton, Mich., Nick lives with his husband, Rob, and their dog, Astrid.
