LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Clemson volleyball team (13-18, 4-14 ACC) concluded the 2022 season after dropping a four-set match (28-26, 23-25, 22-25, 18-25) to the Toledo Rockets (19-12, 11-7 MAC) on Saturday evening in Liberty Arena in the opening round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
Clemson was led offensively by juniors Camryn Hannah and Cate Long who tallied 12 kills each. Colleen Finney and Ani Clark followed with nine and seven kills, respectively, while senior Mckenna Slavik tallied 37 assists. Mia McGrath and Anna Renwick were the lone Tigers to finish with double-digit digs tallying 10 each. Long also finished with two service aces to bring her career total as a Tiger to 99.
The Tigers came out with a bang in the opening set capturing a 28-26 set victory after hitting .389 behind five-kill performances from Hannah and McGrath. The second set opened with an ace from Slavik followed immediately by a block from Hannah and Finney. Clemson clocked four of its six total blocks in the second set with Slavik, Finney, Hannah and Clark all getting in on the action, but the Rockets picked up 17 kills to propel them to a 25-23 set win.
Toledo took the final two sets after hitting .395 in the third and picking up three aces in the fourth to take the match, 3-1, and end the Tigers’ season.
