Comeback Effort Falls Short as Soaring Eagles Drop Tuesday Evening Matchup to Delhi

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles fell short in its come from behind effort on Tuesday evening, dropping its five-set match to SUNY Delhi. The Soaring Eagles, who took the first set before dropping the next two, would eventually force a fifth set where the Broncos took the 15-12 victory. 

The Purple & Gold were paced offensively by Morgan Richardson ’25 and Makenna Clark ’25 with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Additionally, Erin Bracken ’28 notched 16 digs and 34 set assists, while Clark also tallied seven service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Purple & Gold would take the first set 25-20, using a trio of service aces to its advantage while hitting .267% from the floor with 14 kills. 
  • After notching just 12 kills over the next two sets, both of which EC dropped, Elmira would show out strong in the fourth, using a .464 hitting percentage with 15 kills and just a pair of errors. 
  • The contest as a whole would feature a total of 17 ties and nine lead changes, while the second set in particular would go back-and-forth, with Delhi recording the narrow 25-20 victory. 
  • In the fifth and final set, EC would see an early 7-3 advantage, but the Broncos would go on a 7-2 run of its own to eventually claim its first lead of the set, 10-9. The Soaring Eagles would see themselves down a pair for the next few points, before a kill from Morgan Sica ’28 eventually narrowed…
