Riffa, Bahrain, August 21, 2022 – The preliminary inquiry for the 21st Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship, the qualifying tournament for the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship, has been conducted by Control Committee at Mercure Grand Hotel here between August 20 and 21.
Team managers, head coaches and team officials taking part in the topflight championship attended the meeting for short interview as team uniforms, official inquiry forms and passports/travelling document (players’ commitment, health certificates) had been presented, while it was also mandatory for teams to present the ID Cards or Passports during the preliminary inquiry for the AVC Technical Supervisors to verify if the age comply with the regulation.
The Control Committee conducting the preliminary inquiry was led by CC President and Technical Delegate Mr Emile Jabbour. The other CC Members who were also present at the meeting including three Technical Sub Committees – Mr Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, himself AVC Secretary General, Mr Shihab Al Din Ahmed Said Al Ariyami, and Mr Bader Abdulrahman Alxous, Referee Delegate Mr S. Beny Coonghe and three Referee Sub Committees – Dr Khalid Al-Zughaibi, Mr Adel Al-Harbi and Mr Jirachai Kasemsook, and VIS Delegate Ms Pawna Srithoop.
Team officials from seventeen teams taking part in the eight-day championship attended the preliminary inquiry. They were Hong Kong China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Japan, Iran, India, Korea, Qatar, Kuwait, Thailand, UAE, Iraq, Bangladesh, Australia, China, Pakistan and Chinese Taipei.
Following the preliminary inquiry, teams started training in their preparation for the top-tier championship, which will see only top two teams eligible for the next year’s Men’s U21 World Championship.
Referee and VIS Clinic is due to take place at the Isa Sports City Hall on Sunday, while the matchdays will kick off on Monday, August 22.
On the opening day of the championship, Japan will take on Iran at 2pm local time, followed by the match between Korea and Qatar at 4.30pm (Court 1), Iraq and Bangladesh (Court 2) at 4.30pm, Hong Kong China and Saudi Arabia (Court 1) at 7pm and China and Pakistan (Court 2) at 7pm.
