The Cortland women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten in SUNYAC play with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 victory over visiting Fredonia.
The Red Dragons (10-3, 4-0 SUNYAC) will host Buffalo State in a conference match Saturday at 1 p.m.
Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) led Cortland with a career-best 16 kills and added 11 digs and two blocks. She had a .433 attack percentage. Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) registered 12 kills with no errors in 18 attempts for a .667 attack percentage and Caterina Mangogna (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) had eight kills, a .353 attack percentage and three blocks.
Megan McMahon (Ballston Spa) and Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) handed out 21 and 19 assists, respectively. Wittman also had nine digs. Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) led the Red Dragons with 13 digs and Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) paced the squad with five blocks.
Fredonia (1-13, 0-2 SUNYAC) was led by Amaya Lewczyk with nine kills and Gabrielle Sordetto and Erin Callahan with seven kills apiece. Kourtney Krchniak finished with 20 assists and Kailea Sullivan totaled 14 digs.
Cortland recorded a .379 team attack percentage (49 kills, 10 errors in 103 attempts), its best since the first weekend of the season. The Red Dragons hit .405 in the first set and .419 in the third set. Fredonia hit .216 in the opening set but dropped off from there and finished the night at .119 (29 kills, 16 errors in 109 attempts).
