Cortland Sails Past Host Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore outside hitter Kyrah Wilbur (Syracuse/Baldwinsville) recorded 13 kills in her Red Dragon debut as Cortland swept host Plattsburgh, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16, in a SUNYAC women’s volleyball match.
Cortland improved to 14-5 overall and 3-0 in league play. Cortland will play a unique twinbill on Saturday, starting with a league match at Potsdam at 1 p.m. followed by a non-league match at Clarkson, also located in Potsdam, at 4:30 p.m.
 
Wilbur, who missed the season up to this point due to injury, finished with 13 kills and five errors in 22 attempts along with six digs. Jennifer Koestner (Syosset) and Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) each ended with eight kills and no errors in 13 attempts for .615 attack percentages, while Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) and Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) each had four kills. Cortland finished the night with a team .345 attack percentage while holding Plattsburgh to minus-.058 (13 kills, 17 errors in 69 attempts).
 
Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) led the Red Dragons with 18 assists. Pilkey and Alyssa Rich (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) each had two aces, with Pilkey also leading the team with 11 digs. Pilkey, Koestner, Guedez and Reilly shared the team lead with two assisted blocks apiece.
 
Liya Girma and Iris Mulvey led Plattsburgh (3-14, 0-3 SUNYAC) with four kills each. Girma added six digs and Anabella Almeida had seven assists.
 
Cortland led 12-3 and never trailed in the first set, and the Red Dragons established an early 9-3 lead and were never seriously threatened in the second. The Cardinals were within 14-10 in…
