The Cortland women’s volleyball team swept the State University of New York Athletic Conference’s (SUNYAC) top postseason awards for the 2023 season. Junior outside hitter Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) was named the league’s Player of the Year, junior libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year, freshman right side hitter Kira Pirrera (Smithtown West/Hauppauge) was honored as the Rookie of the Year, and for the third straight season Erin Glickert was named the Coach of the Year.
Six Red Dragons earned all-league honors. Pilkey, Martens and junior middle blocker Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) were named to the all-league first team. Junior middle blocker Lexy Bloss (York, PA/Dallastown Area) was a second-team selection, and Pirrera and senior outside hitter Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) were named to the third team.
Pilkey has started all 28 matches this fall and in 104 sets has recorded 286 kills (2.8 per set), a .215 attack percentage, 40 aces and 326 digs (3.1 per set). She also has 27 blocks and a .944 serve reception percentage. Pilkey is tied for second in the SUNYAC in kills and seventh in digs.
Martens is an all-conference choice for the second straight year; she was a third-team honoree in 2022. This fall she has played in 92 sets over 25 matches and has 459 digs (4.99 per set), 34 aces and a .970 serve reception percentage. She ranks second in the SUNYAC in digs.
Pirrera has played in 73 sets over 24 matches. She has 140 kills (1.9 per set) along with 27 blocks and a .216 attack percentage.
Guedez was named All-SUNYAC for the third consecutive season. She was a first-teamer in 2022 and was on the second team in 2021. This season, she’s appeared in 28 matches, 27 as a starter, and in 104 sets has registered 208 kills (2.0 per set), a .367 attack percentage, 107 blocks (1.0 per set) and 18 aces. She leads the SUNYAC in blocks and attack percentage.
Bloss has played in 26 matches, 25 as a starter, and has appeared in 88 total sets. She has 144 kills (1.6 per set), a .306 attack percentage and 73 blocks (0.8 per set). Bloss ranks second in the SUNYAC in attack percentage and fourth in blocks.
