Cortland Wins Twice During Day 2 of Red Dragon Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women’s volleyball team finished with a 3-0 record at its own Red Dragon Classic after posting two victories during Saturday’s action. The Red Dragons opened the day with a four-set win over Western New England, 25-20, 25-17, 17-25, 25-12, and wrapped up the afternoon with a sweep of Hartwick, 25-9, 25-10, 25-20.
 
Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) finished with 12 kills and a .450 attack percentage to lead Cortland versus WNE. Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) totaled nine kills, Olivia Doorley (Pearl River) had eight kills, three aces and five digs, and Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) rang up six kills, a .417 attack percentage and a team-high seven blocks, five solo.
 
Danielle Fisk (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) had five kills and shared the team lead with three aces. Megan McMahon (Ballston Spa) and Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) totaled 18 and 16 assists, respectively, and Carly Haegele (Commack) led the squad with 11 digs.
 
Alissa Hawes and Sarah Scott led the visiting Bears with 13 kills each and Taylor Geist had 31 assists.
 
Allie Sturgess (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) paced Cortland in the win over Hartwick with 10 kills and just one error in 20 attempts for a .450 attack percentage. Pilkey put down nine kills for the second straight match and ended with a .467 attack percentage, Staats had eight kills, and Doorley posted six kills with no errors in 10 attempts for a .600 attack percentage. Cortland posted a team attack percentage of .440 with 40 kills and seven errors in 75 attempts.
