Cougars look for third-straight Pac-12 win Sunday at No. 9 Stanford

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State volleyball (10-4, 2-1 Pac-12) owns the third-best team hitting percentage in the conference (.292) as it looks for a third-straight road Pac-12 win at ninth-ranked Stanford on Sunday afternoon.  Sunday’s match will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Bay Area and is scheduled for a 12:05 p.m. first serve.

The Cougs are coming off of a 3-0 win over Cal on Friday night in which Magda Jehlarova matched a single-match record with 11 total blocks. She also tied for the team lead with 13 kills alongside outside hitter Pia Timmer who surpassed the 1,000 career kill milestone in the sweep for WSU.

>> WSU is a perfect 10-0 against unranked teams this season after Friday’s win at Cal and has now won 21 straight against unranked opponents dating back to last season.  The Cougs are still seeking their first top-25 win of the season.

>> Washington State ranks second in the Pac-12 in aces/set (1.92) and second in total aces (96).  The Cougs had five aces as a team Friday vs Cal.

>> The Cougars are 13^th in the nation and third in the Pac-12 in hitting (.292).  WSU is 10-0 in matches with a higher hitting percentage than its opponents and out-hit Cal .368 – .035 as a team in Friday night’s sweep.

>> Magda Jehlarova is the Pac-12’s active leader in blocks/set (1.42) and is third in active career hitting percentage (.366).  Jehlarova is top-10 in all major career blocking categories at WSU including her 1.42 blocks/set which ranks second all-time.

>> Jehlarova’s 11 blocks against Cal were the most in program history for a three-set match and a new career-best.  She also had a team-best .545 hitting, needing only 22 swings from the middle to reach her match-high 13 kills against Cal.

>> Pia Timmer also tied for the team-lead with 13 kills in Friday’s sweep at Cal including six  kills on only 10 swings in a dominant second set for the Cougs.  Timmer surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark in the first set vs. Cal and later passed head coach Jen Greeny (Stinson) on the all-time career kills list (1,011).
