COUGS HEADING TO HUSKY INVITE
Washington State women’s volleyball is set to take on Washington to open the Husky Invitational on Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m., and then will play UC Davis on Saturday, September 14 at 6 p.m.
ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE
WSU has now won three straight matches with a pair of wins against EWU over the weekend that followed the win over Omaha in the season’s opening weekend. After losing its first two matches to begin the season, they were competitive matches as the Cougs worked through early adjustments with some new faces. The Cougs returned five from the 2023 team, including Logann Golden, Weronika Wojdyla, Katy Ryan, Emma Barbero and Lucie Blažková. In addition to the returners, nine newcomers have entered the program, including grad transfers Sage Brustad (Eastern Washington), Jaden Walz (Bowling Green) and Jade Warren (College of Idaho); junior transfers Keniya Cleveland (Feather River College), Taryn Vrieling (Idaho) and Kylie Wong (Arizona); and true incoming freshmen Italia Bernal, Haumea Marumoto and Breccan Scheck.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday’s match will be the 78th meeting between WSU and UW, but the first with UW as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The two programs played twice in 2023, with the Cougs sweeping both matches, 3-0 in Pullman on Sept. 21, and 3-0 at Washington on Nov. 24. UW leads the all-time series 55-22.
Saturday will be the sixth time WSU has faced UC Davis, with UC Davis holding the slight edge 3-2 in their previous matches. Their last meeting was in 2009 when the Cougars opened the season with a 3-1 victory over the Aggies.
HISTORY AGAINST BIG TEN OPPONENTS
The last WSU win over a Big Ten opponent was in 2008 against Northwestern (3-0) in Pullman, and the last road win against a Big Ten school was in 1993 at Iowa. The Cougs are 5-9 all-time…
