Cougs host rematch with Colorado Sunday in Bohler Gym


PULLMAN, Wash. — On the heels of a Friday night sweep in Bohler Gym, 25th-ranked Washington State volleyball (20-8, 12-5 Pac-12) gets set for a rematch against Colorado (18-9, 10-7 Pac-12) Sunday afternoon as it hosts the second match in a four-match home stand to close out the 2022 Pac-12 season.  Sunday’s match against the Buffaloes will be televised live on Pac-12 Mountain.

Last week’s Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, Pia Timmer, had a match high 16 kills and hit .394 (16-3-33) on Friday against Utah. Washington State finished with a .354 (49-15-96) to .159 (28-15-82)  edge in hitting on Friday as it improved to 9-1 at home on the season.  The sweep over the Utes also gave WSU its fourth 20-win season in the last five years with another three Pac-12 matches still to play.

>> Washington State defeated Utah in three sets for its 13th sweep of the season and its ninth win in Bohler Gym where they’ve won 14 of the last 15 matches dating back to last season.

>> The Cougs held steady at No. 25 in the week 12 AVCA Division I Coaches’ Poll after cracking the top-25 for the first time last week.

>> Washington State’s .275 hitting percentage as a team was 18th in the NCAA going into Friday’s match.  The Cougs’ efficient night on offense bumped their season average to .277 going into Sunday’s match.

>> Pia Timmer was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career and the first time this season after averaging 4.57 kills/set while hitting .310 against ASU and Arizona.

>> Timmer had a match-high 16 kills in Friday’s win and has reached double-digit kills in six straight matches for the Cougs.

>> Fifth-year grad transfer from the Netherlands, Laura Jansen, has four double-doubles on the season and leads the Cougars with 3.56 kills/set.

>> Going into the weekend, Magda Jehlarova ranked No. 1 in the Pac-12 and 13th in the NCAA with 1.41 blocks/set and No. 1 in the Pac-12 and 14th in the NCAA with 137 total blocks.  Her .378 hitting percentage is good for 31st in the NCAA and third in the Pac-12.
