ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE
WSU has now won four of its last five matches with wins against Eastern Washington and UC Davis last week. Although losing its first two matches to begin the season, they were competitive matches as the Cougs worked through early adjustments with some new faces. The Cougs returned five from the 2023 team, including Logann Golden, Weronika Wojdyla, Katy Ryan, Emma Barbero and Lucie Blažková. In addition to the returners, nine newcomers have entered the program, including grad transfers Sage Brustad (Eastern Washington), Jaden Walz (Bowling Green) and Jade Warren (College of Idaho); junior transfers Keniya Cleveland (Feather River College), Taryn Vrieling (Idaho) and Kylie Wong (Arizona); and true incoming freshmen Italia Bernal, Haumea Marumoto and Breccan Scheck.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday’s match will be the fifth meeting between WSU and CSUN, and the first match between the two since 2009. The Cougars have won each of the last three meetings, including a 3-2 win in 2008, and wins of 3-1 and 3-0 on back-to-back days in 2009.
Friday will be the sixth time WSU has faced Long Beach State, with LBSU holding the slight edge 3-2 in their previous matches. The Cougars, though, have won each of the last two meetings, both 3-0 sweeps in 2021 and 2016.
PRESEASON RANKINGS
Washington State volleyball received votes in the 2024 AVCA National Preseason Poll ahead of new Head Coach Korey Schroeder‘s first season at the helm. The team was also picked to finish sixth in the Preseason WCC Coaches’ Poll, while senior Katy Ryan was named to the 2024 WCC Preseason Team.
