Deacons Defeat Charlotte in Second Sweep of Weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coming off a Friday evening sweep over Davidson, Wake Forest volleyball (8-3) kept the ball rolling on Saturday (Sept. 17) defeating Charlotte, 3-0, to end its weekend play on an undefeated note (25-21, 25-22, 25-19).

The Demon Deacons went 2-0 during its fourth week of season competition, recording back-to-back match sweeps.

For the second time in as many weeks, a player milestone was reached within theWake Forest squad, as senior Emmy Ogogor notched the 500th kill of her collegiate career. She ended with 10 kills on 12 attacks (.833).

Peyton Suess led Wake Forest in kills (11) for the fifth time this season. Paige Crawford added 10 kills and six digs.

Emma Farrell continued to showcase her defensive prowess, ending with 21 digs to pace all individuals.

Rian Baker posted a match-best 22 digs and chipped in eight digs. Andrea Fuentes handed out 19 assists.

Ogogor and Suess assisted on four blocks apiece.

Wake Forest moved to 14-8 in the all-time series versus Charlotte, with Saturday’s meeting being the first in the head coach Randi Smart era.

 

How it Happened

  • Paige Crawford got Wake Forest going with three quick kills in set one.

  • Traded attacks between the two sides soon took place, resulting in a 9-9 tie.



  • Ashley Slater and Peyton Suess mainly led the way through the next batch of play, as Charlotte struggled with a few errors.

  • Cleaning up some things, the 49ers responded with a trio of unanswered points, tying the margin again, at 18-18.

  • Suess quickly took over on a personal spurt to again create some comfort, 22-19.
