Deacs Travel to Blacksburg For Midweek Match Versus Hokies


WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Primed for the latter stretch of its 2022 regular season, Wake Forest volleyball (13-10, 5-7) steps into a midweek matchup for the first time this year on Wednesday (Nov. 2), visiting the Virginia Tech Hokies (9-14, 2-10).

The match, scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, will air on ACC Network Extra and live stats will be available.

In its last weekend showing, the Demon Deacons split in matches against nationally-ranked Pittsburgh (Oct. 28) and Virginia (Oct. 30), picking up a win in sweeping fashion over the latter.

Back at home for the first time in two weeks, Wake Forest volleyball took on a major test in facing its third ranked opponent of the 2022 fall season: No. 7 Pittsburgh. The Panthers ultimately swept the Demon Deacons in three sets (21-25, 13-25, 19-25) on Friday evening (Oct. 28).

Olivia Franke led the Deacons in kills for the first time this season, ending with eight. The junior additionally assisted on eight blocks.

Rian Baker played a balanced match to finish with 12 assists, seven digs, and three service aces.

Emma Farrell scattered around the floor to make a handful of plays, tallying a team-high 11 digs along with five assists.

Paige Crawford added seven kills and Ashley Slater had six. Both teams collected 34 total digs.

 

Sunday, Oct. 30 – Wake Forest 3, Virginia 0

Looking to bounce back from a Friday defeat, Wake Forest gained contributions from across the board throughout Sunday afternoon (Oct. 30) in a 3-0 sweep over Virginia (11-12, 3-9).

Five Demon Deacons ended with six or more kills, led by Ashley Slater’s 10. The team’s collective .358 attacking percentage was its second-best clip of 2022. Additionally, Wake Forest’s 11 service aces tied for the most delivered this season.

Peyton Suess had her most efficient hitting performance of the fall, going 7-of-13 on attacks while committing zero errors (.538).

Andrea Fuentes put together a well-rounded showing of 15 assists, seven digs, and a career-high five service aces. That same mark in aces is the most by a Deac in a single match this season.

Rian Baker and Emma Farrell added 15 assists and seven digs, respectively. Emmy Ogogor completed six of her 10 attacking attempts, suffering only…
