SEATTLE – Behind career highs and a stellar defense, Sun Devil Volleyball persisted in a back-and-forth affair to take the five-set victory (25-21, 24-26, 26-24, 15-25, 15-12) at No. 15 Washington for the first ranked win of the season.
“I’m super proud of this huge team win,” Arizona State Head Coach Sanja Tomasevic said. “I loved the way everyone fought, and I’m super proud of the composure we showed when it mattered. This team is special and I love to see them get amazing wins like this one on the road against the No. 15 team in the country!”
Notable Stats
- Arizona State (10-11, 4-5 Pac-12) improves to 4-2 in five-set matches this season after beating Washington (14-5, 6-3 Pac-12). ASU out-hit UW .219 to .187.
- The Sun Devils picked up their first ranked win of the season after four previous tries. Head coach Sanja Tomasevic now has three wins against her alma mater, the last win coming in the spring 2020-21 season in Seattle.
- Middle blocker Claudia Stahlke was a force at the net, earning a career-high 10 blocks, which also was a match high. She is the first Sun Devil with double-digit blocks since Oly Okaro on September 21, 2016. Her 10 total blocks are tied for fourth in the ASU record book in the rally-scoring era. Her nine block assists are tied for seventh. The team as a whole had 13 blocks, a season high.
