Manama, Bahrain, May 15, 2023 – Khaypil Sports club found Thailand’s Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force a tough nut to crack to go down 1-3 in the preliminary Pool C clash on Monday for two losses on the trot at the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at Issa Bin Rashed Hall 1 here.
After a straight-set letdown to Suntory Sunbirds in the previous match on Sunday, Diamond Food came into the court with the winning attitude of not leaving the competition venue with their heads low in disappointment with two consecutive losses.
Diamond Food, hoping to make amends for their first loss on Sunday, played well in the first set against the Yemenis but still found the impeccable rivals too hot to handle as they narrowly went down in the hard-fought first set 24-26.
The Thai squad were not willing to give up as they engineered an aggressive fightback and thanks to the tightened defence and back-to-back attacks in crucial moments, they annulled the Yemenis’ fightback for the impressive 25-17, 25-13 win in the second and third sets.
Khaypil Sports Club managed to give Diamond Food trouble in the fourth set and the Yemenis side severally tried to level it and revive their high hopes of winning the set. Still, Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force regrouped and held firm to seal the set 25-21 and match.
Evandro De Souza chipped in with 32 points for Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force, while Mohamed Elhossiny led Khaypil Sports Club with 20 points.
Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force on Tuesday will challenge Bayankhongor Crownd Geo VC of Mongolia in their last preliminary match, while Khaypil Sports Club will go up against Japan’s Suntory Sunbirds.
