It is with great sadness that World ParaVolley notes the passing of Dr. Hanem Amir, a valued member of the World ParaVolley Anti-Doping Commission, who passed away on October 17, 2023.
Dr. Amir was a pharmacist by profession, and appointed to the World ParaVolley Anti-Doping Commission in 2021, but had been actively assisting World ParaVolley with its Anti-Doping Program long before then.
Dr. Amir’s expertise and work was also recognized internationally. She was a member of WADA’s National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) Expert Advisory Group (EAG) and in that time made valuable contributions to further the development of the anti-doping system in Africa. Dr. Amir was a fixture in the African anti-doping community, having been an integral member of the Egyptian NADO through the various posts she held over the past 13 years, including the last three as Chief Executive. She was elected Chair of the Africa Zone 5 RADO in 2019 and was recently re-elected for a second four-year term, demonstrating the respect her colleagues within the RADO had for her commitment and leadership.

Dr. Jun Min Zhang, team leader of the World ParaVolley Anti-Doping Commission, said: “Dr. Hanem Amir was a really nice person who was a joy to work with. She has been a very valuable contributor to the World ParaVolley anti-doping program. A good friend to all, she will be greatly missed by friends close and international. RIP Dr. Hanem.”
