HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Oregon beach volleyball team suffered a pair of 5-0 losses on day two of the Queens Cup, falling to host and ninth-ranked Hawaii and No. 11 Cal. The Ducks close out their weekend in the Aloha State on Sunday against Nebraska at 11 a.m. (PT).
In the day’s opener, Hawaii jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins at No. 4 and 5 pairs, and sealed the dual at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton kept things close in the first set before the UH team of Kylin Loker and Riley Wagoner pulled away for the 21-16, 21-10 clincher. The hosts went on to complete the dual sweep with straight-set wins on courts one and three.
Oregon (3-10) played Cal in its second match of the day, a second meeting against the Golden Bears this year. Cal took a 2-0 lead with quick wins at No. 4 and 5 before clinching the match at No. 3 pairs. In the closest match, Tyus and Wetton fell to Gia Fisher and Ainsley Radell (21-17, 21-16) on court two.
Notable: Freshman Kendall Clark made her debut in the UO lineup, playing with Lolo Folau at the No. 5 spot against Cal…the Ducks have played a ranked team in 10 of 13 matches…Oregon’s next home match is March 23 against Corban.
